16 Must-Watch Book-To-Screen Adaptations In Late 2017
While Game of Thrones is a good company to my early Monday breakfast, here are a few other recently-released/upcoming book-inspired TV series and movies I’d bend my knee to and plan for the nights’ watch accordingly.
The Last Tycoon
Reportedly F. Scott Fitzgerald’s best work, published post his demise, The Last Tycoon is a story set in 1930s around the personal and professional life of a Jewish Hollywood movie producer, Monroe Stahr.
FYI, the book is also referenced in John Grisham’s latest novel, Camino Island.
Sharp Objects
A journalist with past issues has to investigate a twin murder of little girls in Missouri. This 8-episode TV-adaptation of the novel by Gillian Flynn (Gone Girl) stars Amy Adams in the lead.
Strike
Adapted from The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith (alias of JK Rowling), the first season of the series revolves around Private Investigator Cormoran Strike who’s hired to verify whether a supermodel’s suicide is, in fact, a murder. The series premieres 27th August 2017.
Alias Grace
Alias Grace is the second story by Margaret Atwood to be adapted for the small screen in 2017 (The Handmaid’s Tale premiered earlier this year). Based on true events, it revolves around a housemaid from Ireland who was imprisoned for the murder of her employer.
Mindhunter
Based on the 1979 bestseller Mind Hunter: Inside The FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit, the series produced by Charlize Theron and David Fincher will have two FBI officers interviewing imprisoned serial killers to solve existing cases. The drama will come out on Netflix in October ’17.
